Puzzle & Dragons x Demon Slayer collaboration poster featuring characters from both games

Puzzle & Dragons x Demon Slayer Reruns in Japan from Dec 22 to Jan 8

Puzzle & Dragons is becoming the king of collaborations for smartphone gamers. It’s now introducing a rerun of Puzzle Dragons x Demon Slayer in Japan from December 22 to January 8. The event features familiar faces from the Demon Slayer IP, both humans and demons alike.

With as many as 28 characters this time around, it is in stark contrast to the 2020 collaboration that started with only seven characters. You can learn more about the rerun on the Puzzle & Dragons official website.

Details of the collaboration are scarce. However, we assume there will be new missions and lore featuring heroes from the anime as teammates you lead in defeating the demons. Also, this event will offer exclusive rewards as a commemoration of your joining in on the clash! These one-time rewards include relics from the Demon Slayer franchise.

This would also be a good time for players, new and old, to stock up on Demon Slayer-inspired in-game merch. The rerun collab is unexpected, but if we had to guess, it was so rewarding and fun the first time that Puzzle & Dragons felt compelled to bring back the corps team to fight the new demonic threats as seen in the latest season of the series!

While the Demon Slayer crossover is exclusive to Japan, we have seen many collaborations return to the English version of the game. Puzzle & Dragons is available worldwide for both iOS and Android.

About Puzzle & Dragons

Puzzle & Dragons is a role-playing game with strategy elements by GungHo Online Entertainment. The match-three puzzle game requires you to move and match coloured orbs arranged on a grid. The number and type of matches determine which of the six monsters on your team attack the waves of enemy monsters and how much damage they cause.

An additional layer of challenge is the acquisition, selection, and development of monsters from among thousands. You can choose characters from standard fantasy fare, deities from several religions and mythologies, and protagonists from popular entertainment franchises.

Although it is free to play, you can purchase in-game currency. Puzzle & Dragons is the first mobile game in history to gross $1 billion in revenue. It was the highest-grossing mobile app of all time up until Monster Strike eventually surpassed it.

About Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge. It follows teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who strives to become a demon slayer after his family is slaughtered and his younger sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon. It was the best-selling manga in 2019 and 2020 with over 150 million copies in circulation by 2021.

The story takes place in Taishō era Japan, where a secret organization, Demon Slayer Corps, has waged a war against demons for centuries. These demons are former humans who possess supernatural abilities such as super strength, rapid regeneration, and unique powers referred to as “Blood Demon Art”. Demons can only be killed if they are decapitated with weapons crafted from a rare alloy called Nichirin, injected with poison extracted from wisteria flowers, or exposed to direct sunlight.

In contrast, the demon slayers are entirely human though they can use specialized elemental breathing techniques known as “Breathing Styles”. These practices grant them superhuman strength and increased resilience to fight demons effectively. The most formidable demon slayers hold the “Hashira” title. They gain this rank by slaying a member of the Twelve Kizuki, an organization comprising the 12 strongest demons, or killing 50 demons through multiple advancements in their rank.

Puzzle Dragons x Demon Slayer

The two games collaborated for the first time in 2020, starting with only seven characters – Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Giyuu, Shinobu, and Kanao. During that time, nine additional characters were eventually revealed, taking the total count to 16 playable characters.

You can probably expect a similar collaboration to hit the global server at some point, so stay tuned! For more updates on the latest iOS games, you can check out some of our other news. Alterna Welt: Blue Exorcist Gaiden Announces Summer 2024 Release
