Remakes and Reissues on iPhone

Putting Gameloft’s reissue of the PSone classic Driver through its paces recently got me thinking, what other games from this era would work well on iPhone/iTouch? And before I knew it I’d compiled a wishlist…

Rollcage:  Kinda like Wipeout on four wheels, this futuristic racer from Psygnosis boasted a cool physics engine, in which cars could drive on walls or ceilings because of the airflow passing over them at extreme speeds. The game featured some great topsy tracks, an explosive combat mode, and a funky soundtrack courtesy of Fatboy Slim. Perfect fodder for an iDevice update methinks; imagine: accelerometer controlled 360 degree driving, online battles in combat mode, and banging tunes while you play.

Sheep, Dog and Wolf/ Sheep Raider: A fun puzzle game/sneak ’em up hybrid based on the Looney Tunes cartoon that’d work a treat with a touchscreen twist. Playing as Ralph E. Wolf (cousin of Wile E. Coyote), the aim of the game was to swipe sheep against the clock in the most inventive and outlandish ways possible. Basically a much woolier Metal Gear Solid, this great title is definately deserving of an iPhone update.

(and on that note) Metal Gear Solid: Okay, so Snake already snuck onto the Appstore, but there was no hiding the fact that the shooting gallery style game wasn’t the sort of Metal Gear that fans wanted. So why don’t Konami save face by re-releasing the classic PSone outings instead? I for one am dying for a decent stealth game on the platform.

Crash Bandicoot: Already made his first iPhone appearence in the enjoyable and critically acclaimed racer, Nitro Kart. And I reckon the series of 3d platforming games would be equally well recieved given the relative rarity of titles of this type on the Appstore.
