80 Days is a gamebook. You read, you make choices, you push the story in different directions. But it’s also much more than that. It’s a race around the world, a thrashingly ingenious narrative filled with mesmerizing characters and memorable moments and, perhaps most importantly, one of the best games on the App Store.
And right now you can pick it up for ridiculously cheap. Like, almost unbelievably cheap. The sort of cheap where you have to check that the price is right and then feel a bit like you’ve stolen something when you pay.
The game is essentially a steampunk retelling of Around The World in 80 Days. You play as Passepartout, Phileas Fogg’s valet. It’s up to you to balance the finances, keep your master healthy and plan out your circumnavigation of the globe.
Along the way you’ll come across a huge variety of situations and need to find solutions for the various troubles. There’s a half-a-million word script and an entire world to explore, so it’s fair to say that no two journeys are quite the same.
You can track other player’s progress and check up on their disasters too. But the game clock never stops ticking, and if you want to get around the world in the time limit you’re going to have to think smart and think fast.
