CAVE, the makers of several ‘bullet hell’ shoot ’em ups, has released a new title, Touhou Gensou Eclipse in Japan. Also known as Touhou Fantasy Eclipse, it’s available on iOS and Android and is a free-to-play game with a built-in gacha system. Check out the cool characters and more details on the official website of Touhou Gensou Eclipse.
Touhou: Gensou Eclipse
The sidecrolling shooter follows the narrative of the original Tohou Project. It’s set in Gensokyo, also known as the Land of Fantasy where humans share their habitat with the Japanese demons called Yokai. You get a collection of memory cards that help you acquire power. You can participate in a series of boss battles and tower battles. Check out the opening trailer for the game here.
What The Game Features
You can also acquire skills from the characters you develop based on the memory cards you choose to boost the characters. Apart from the protagonists Reimu Hakurei, the shrine maiden, and Marisa Kirisame, the magician, there are 22 other characters. There is Cirno, a playful and strong ice fairy who is also a cryokinesis genius. You’ll also see Sakuya Izayoi, the maid of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, and Kawashiro Tori, manipulators of time and water respectively, among others.
The first game in the Tohou Project series was released in 1997. Since then, it has garnered a lot of popularity and has even inspired a bunch of artwork, songs, stories, and other games. On the other hand, CAVE specialises in arcade danmaku STG (shooting games). Some of their previous hit titles include the Dodonpachi series and Gothic wa Mahou.
Touhou Gensou Eclipse already ranks at #2 in the Action category in the Japanese App Store. Very few Tohou games hit the global App Store, but we hope that this one does soon. Meanwhile, check out this story on Rush Royale’s mega event that starts today.
